| Teaching Philosophy: |
A teacher is many things, but first and foremost, he or she is a guide. Teachers do not simply instruct but rather, lead students in achieving their goals. A teacher leads with a mixture of knowledge, passion, respect, and discipline. An effective teacher needs to employ a variety of techniques to reach different learners. Most students learn through collaboration, and this means that group work is a must. Lab activities are an excellent opportunity for this purpose. All students posses different intelligences, and to reach them information cannot simply be presented as lecture. For example, posters, movies, and diagrams would be effective teaching aids for visual learners and the inductive reasoning and calculation of labs would be effective for mathematical/logical learners. Whichever techniques are chosen a safe and respectful classroom environment must be created to allow students to explore and express their unique views. | |
