Some people can (mistakenly) think art is purely decorative, or boring, stored in the sparse, quiet galleries of a museum. In reality, our world is permeated with art. At every turn, fine art, architecture, and commercial art informs us.
When creating art, one learns the properties of the mediums in which he works. Whether drawing, painting, or sculpting, many variables are at hand: the medium itself, the intent of the artist, the intended audience, the use of space, line, form, color, composition, and design. Art history is not only about individual artists and movements, but also about politics, power, trade and commerce, technology, sociology, and religion.
My love of creating art and learning about art history has taken me around the globe. It has informed my life in ways I could have never imagined...It is a privilege for me to share my love of art with students.
My goal is to ignite the minds, hands, and imaginations of my students. I will teach the fundamental principles of fine art and for students to experience the incredible sense of accomplishment that comes with creating. Through every project, I will infuse lessons from art history, expand the students' knowledge of past and present, and encourage students to think.
The fine art classroom will be a nurturing space where students can have the confidence to create, be themselves, learn, and grow!
