Summer Reading Program:
As an educational community, we strive to create life-long learners and to develop a passion for reading and critical thinking within our students. Summer reading provides an excellent opportunity for students to stay connected to literature, enhance literacy skills, and gain knowledge. For all of these reasons, we have developed the following summer reading program.
We will be using a "One Book, One Grade" program this year. All rising freshmen will read the book, The Scorpio Races, by Maggie Stiefvater. Sophomores will read Legend by Marie Lu; juniors will read Unwind, by Neal Schusterman, and seniors will read, The Color of Water, by James McBride.
Students will be graded by a combination of a multiple choice quiz, given the first week of school, and a project to be completed in English class. Please note that all students will take the quiz during the first week of school. It is essential that your child participates in the program as it will count as their first test grade in English. Our library will have fifty copies of each book for students to borrow, but all books are also available at your local library or book store.
On each book page, you will find a guided reading packet. This packet will not be collected, but it will help guide you towards the information you need to complete your project.
