New Jersey Biology Competency Test (NJBCT)
The New Jersey Biology Competency Test is used to assess any high school student who is enrolled in a requisite Biology course. The NJBCT was developed to meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), which mandated that each state administer a standards-based Science assessment at least once in high school.

Resources for Students and Parents:
- Students who are required to test but are absent for the regular test administration must be tested on the make-up dates.
- Students should bring several sharpened #2 pencils with erasers (no pens) to each test session. Calculators are NOT allowed on the NJBCT.
- Students may NOT bring book bags, purses, reference materials, electronic devices (i.e. cell phones, iPods, etc.) or food/drinks to the testing room. These items must remain in their lockers. Any student found to be in possession of an electronic device during testing will receive a void (V2) for that section of the test.
- Students should get a good night's sleep and eat a well-balanced breakfast to prepare for testing. All students are encouraged to try their best and utilize test taking strategies during testing.
