English as a Second Language

  • The Burlington County Institute of Technology has established a magnet program for ESL students at the Westampton campus. English as a Second Language is a course which supports English Language Learners in their process to achieve English language proficiency with daily instruction in the four language domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The ESL program is facilitated by a certified ESL teacher, Ms. Rebecca Barrett.

BCIT is a member of the WIDA Consortium, and as such, our English Language Learners are assessed in the Spring with the ACCESS for ELL's exam to measure growth of academic language skills over extended periods of time. In addition, mainstream teachers are encouraged to use WIDA's Can Do descriptors to further inform them of each ELL's strengths and abilities in the target language.
