Courses Taught - Honors English I and Honors English II:
Honors English I and Honors English II are accelerated courses designed for freshmen and sophomores who are seeking a deeper understanding of fundamentals in English Language Arts. These courses teach students to read closely, delve deeply, and analyze thoroughly both fiction and non-fiction works, and use strong rhetorical and composition skills. Students will read novels, assorted poems, and several short pieces of fiction. Students are expected to write several essays throughout the year. Oral communication will be emphasized through whole class, small group, and formal presentations. Creative projects will also be offered throughout the year. All essays, discussions and projects will emphasize critical thinking skills and literary analysis.
Courses Taught - AP Literature and Composition:
AP Lit has been designed in accordance with the College Board's curricular standards, as outlined in the AP Lit and Comp Course Description and is an available option for 12th grade students. The purpose of this course is to teach intro level college writing through the close reading of an array of American and British literature from the sixteenth century to the present. This course is a college level experience, with corresponding expectations. The reading, writing, and discussion expectations are that of an undergraduate course. In May, students are encouraged to take the AP English Literature and Composition Exam in order to earn college advantages.
