Failed Courses
Seniors must have all outstanding Keystones completed by June 2nd to participate in
the graduation ceremony. Seniors who fail any courses during the second semester of this
school year will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony and will receive their
diploma once the Keystone for the failed course is completed over the summer. Any senior who
fails one block of their career major is not eligible to graduate as per district policy.
Caps and Gowns
Students will receive their caps and gowns at practice on June 18th. The package will
contain the student’s tassel as well. It is imperative that the students be very careful not to lose
this tassel as it is not possible to obtain a replacement. The students will be able to keep these
items after graduation. Do not attempt to iron the gowns as an iron will melt a hole in the
material. Please be aware that the gowns for all students are royal blue.
On the evening of graduation, the students will be assigned a room in which to get
ready. Staff members will be on hand to assist with caps and gowns and will also assign a red
stole to each student. After graduation, the students must return to the same room in which they
received their stole. They will hand in their red stole and will then receive the actual envelope
containing their diploma. During the graduation ceremony, the students will only receive the
diploma cover. The student will keep this cover as well.
Expectations for Dress and Behavior
There are certain dress requirements for students participating in the graduation
ceremony. No students will be permitted to wear sneakers or flip-flops. No students will be
permitted to wear jeans. Dress pants, khakis, or dresses are acceptable.
Just as there is an expectation for student attire, there is also an expectation for student
behavior during the ceremony. Students will not be allowed to bring any additional items into
the auditorium with them. They will be searched for such items before entering the auditorium.
Should there be any incidents of undesirable behavior on the stage or during the ceremony,
administrative action will be taken and there is the possibility that the student may be removed
from the ceremony.
