Our Dental Radiology course is designed to equip working dental* assistants with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively perform dental radiography. By completing this course, dental assistants can enhance their skills, improve patient care, and advance their careers in the dynamic field of dentistry.

Dental Radiology primarily focuses on the technical aspects of dental radiography, including:
Radiographic Principles: History, nature, and properties of x-rays, radiation safety, and effects of radiation exposure.
Radiographic Techniques: Intraoral and extraoral radiography techniques, film processing, and correcting faulty radiographs.
Patient Management: Techniques for patient positioning and comfort, as well as communication and education regarding radiographic procedures.
Safety and Compliance: Emphasis on radiation hygiene and protection, including OSHA standards for infection control and radiation safety.
Practical Experience:
Includes both didactic (classroom) instruction and hands-on laboratory experience.
Clinical component allows students to apply their learning in a real-world setting under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
Eligibility: Designed for working dental assistants who are already employed in a dental office.
Approval: Approved by the Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners, ensuring the course meets the necessary standards and prepares students for licensure or certification.

Students enrolled in radiology-related programs are responsible for reviewing and adhering to all program and safety requirements.
Pregnancy and Radiation Safety Policy
Students who voluntarily declare pregnancy will receive information regarding radiation exposure limits, safety measures, counseling options, and possible clinical modifications in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
Clinical Education Policy
Students participating in clinical education experiences must comply with all affiliated site requirements, professional standards, and safety regulations.
Educational Resources
BCIT Adult Education provides instructional support, laboratory resources, educational materials, faculty assistance, and student services necessary for successful completion of the program.
Student Admission and Character Requirements
As per NJDEP guidelines, the following documents are required to be presented at the time of registration:
Valid Government-issued Photo ID
High School Diploma/Equivalent or College Degree
Proof of employment in a dental office
Students enrolling in any healthcare or radiology-related programs must demonstrate appropriate professional and ethical standards. BCIT reserves the right to review information related to professional conduct, criminal background, and other factors that may impact clinical placement eligibility or successful participation in the program.
Failure to disclose required information or meet program standards may result in denial of admission, removal from clinical placement, or dismissal from the program.
All students are required to review the BCIT Adult Education Student Handbooks and Policies prior to registration.

All candidates will be required to sign a statement declaring that, “I am of good moral character, not a habitual user of drugs and I have never been convicted of or pleaded no contest, non guilty or non guilty to an indictment, information or complaint alleging a violation of any Federal or State law relating to narcotic drugs” as per N.J.A.C.7-28-19.11-Dental Radiologic Board.
All Dental students will be required to sign the same statement upon application to licensure and disclose any felony convictions within the last five years, any discipline action by a regulatory board or credentialing agency, any dismissal by an educational institution for an ethical violation, or if they have ever been declared mentally incompetent by a court of law. DANB will review each response and make a determination, in consultation with legal counsel, on a case-by case basis. DANB reserves the right, under extraordinary circumstances, to bring individuals for review under DANB’s Policy and Procedures for Disciplinary Review and Appeal.

Students must attend every class to reach hour requirement. If not they will be charged a fee per hour for each required make up hour.
