Clinical Medical Administrative Assistant

This course specifically targets the administrative duties of a Medical Administrative Assistant.

Curriculum covers essential administrative skills, including:

  • Patient Scheduling: Appointment scheduling, patient registration, and check-in/check-out procedures.

  • Medical Records Management: Preparing and maintaining patient records, including electronic health records (EHR).

  • Secretarial and Transcription Skills: Typing, filing, data entry, and medical transcription.

  • Communication: Handling phone calls, writing correspondence, and interacting effectively with patients and other healthcare professionals.

  • Office Management: Managing patient flow, scheduling appointments, and handling basic office procedures.

  • Certification Preparation: Prepares students to take the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Additional Information: Please review all Allied Health Program Prerequisites and our District Policies before registering for a course. All students must wear their BCIT issued photo ID with name clear and visible (ID will be issued during the first week of class). 

Course cost does include fees for the NHA certification, but not textbooks or Solid Maroon Scrub uniforms, and white shoes.
