Patient Care Technician

Consists of four distinct modules, allowing for flexibility in learning and potentially enabling students to earn certifications for specific skill sets.

  • Comprehensive Training:

    • Covers a wide range of essential patient care skills.

    • Focuses on cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning (knowledge, skills, and attitudes).

  • Core Duties:

    • Direct Patient Care: Assisting with bathing, feeding, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients.

    • Patient Support: Accommodating the special needs of patients and providing emotional support.

    • Vital Signs Monitoring: Obtaining and documenting vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations).

    • Clinical Procedures: Performing phlebotomy and electrocardiography (ECG) procedures (as delegated).

  • Certification Preparation: Prepares students to take the Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Additional Information: Course cost does include one NHA Certification Exam attempt for each course - Electrocardiography Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, and Introducing to Patient Care Technician, but not CNA certification with the NJ State Department of Health, textbooks or Solid Maroon Scrub uniforms with red BCIT Adult Education shirt and white shoes. Introducing the Patient Care Technician

This 12-hour course addresses additional Patient Care Technician responsibilities that are not included in Modules I - III of the Patient Care Technician Program. This course serves to complete requirements in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains to meet direct patient healthcare needs. Successful completion of Modules I- III in the PCT Program provides eligibility to sit for the Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) examination with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).  Course cost does not include Textbook. Included in the course fee is the cost for NHA Certification Exam (one attempt).
